Mark & Spencer Plc, a major British multinational retailer offering high quality, own brand, food clothing and home products throughout 1,433 stores worldwide and online.  With 1,025 UK stores, including 253 owned and 383 franchise Simply Food stores, and a heritage dating back to 1884, M&S are one of Britain’s most cherished retailers.

Working with Wates Smartspace, one of the largest privately owned construction, development and property services companies in the UK, Spencer Signs were challenged with undertaking a national rollout incorporating the clients’ aspiration of removing all hero green external signage and window graphics, replacing with the new black and white scheme. 

Spencer Signs allocation of sites ran across three of the four geographic regions, including; South, East, West, Central, Wales, and limited parts of Northern England, along with Newport – Isle of Wight. With an allocation of a maximum four out of hours shifts per site, along with requirements for traffic and pedestrian management, and limited working hours due to local noise abatement orders, the success of the project would rely upon in-depth planning and precise on-site execution.

Spencer Signs successfully re-branded over 120 stores across its allocated regions, working on an average of 4 sites per week over a period of 8 months.  A further allocation of sites were accepted and delivered during the programme to further demonstrate Spencer Signs commitment in delivering on-time, every-time.

All hero green fascia’s were removed and replaced with white powder coated folded aluminium, complemented with individual gloss black, internally illuminated letters and 10mm thick polar frost acrylic back trays.

The team at Spencer Signs utilised their vast specialist knowledge of fixing selection and specification, backed up by manufacturers’ datasheets to provide the client with site specific fixing information and as built details. Spencer Signs continues to work with Wates Smartspace to deliver new signage schemes across the latest allocation of Simply Food stores nationwide.
