Sign Awards Winners!

Great achievement by the team at Spencer Signs to win the Best in Show at The Sign Awards 2023.

Our brief was to create a sign and statement piece to capture the history and heritage of Hucknall Aerodrome.

From 1930’s to 2008 Rolls Royce Conducted Flight tests end engine development at Hucknall Aerodrome including the world’s first vertical take off and landing flight which led to the technological development of the Harrier jump jet and naming the development Harrier Park.

Overcoming Challenges

Each handmade Corten steel panel is unique in size and shape to create a jigsaw type construction method, testing our skilled fabrication team to ensure the joins and detail matched the framework and rib structure of the sign. The installation and logistics of delivering the sign to site involved HIAB delivery and precise crane installation of the 3 Tonne sign onto the foundation and base.

In all of the modern day signage and branding projects delivered in our industry, generally the products and projects we deliver require pristine paint finishes and perfect quality. Whilst attention to detail was required to manufacture the Harrier Park sign, one of the main challenges to was achieve the rustic and weathered effect to create the authentic look and feel of a design and engineered solution for a historic British master piece, the Harrier Jump Jet.

The 12 week project was completed and installed in August 2022.
